Local Information Portsmouth is a waterfront city, situated along the South Coast of England, famed for its nightlife and up and coming football team! Not only was it the birthplace of Charles Dickens, but it is also here that Sir Arthur Conan Doyle created one of his most famous characters, Sherlock Holmes.
The British Royal Navy has used Portsmouth as its home over the last 500 years, some historical sights include the Mary Rose, Henry VIII’s 16th Century warship. Lord Nelson’s flagship HMS Victory and Britain’s first iron clad battleship HMS Warrior.

With its road and rail networks Portsmouth is easy to access, the M275 links the city to the A/M27 and the A3(M) to London. There is also the more local Southampton International Airport, which is approximately 25 minutes away. There is the Continental Ferry Port, which gives easy access to France, Spain and the Channel Islands.
