Portsmouth is a waterfront city, situated along the South Coast of England, famed for its nightlife and up and coming football team! Not only was it the birthplace of Charles Dickens, but it is also here that Sir Arthur Conan Doyle created one of his most famous characters, Sherlock Holmes.

The British Royal Navy has used Portsmouth as its home over the last 500 years, some historical sights include the Mary Rose, Henry VIII’s 16th Century warship. Lord Nelson’s flagship HMS Victory and Britain’s first iron clad battleship HMS Warrior.

Now in the 21st century, Portsmouth Harbour is preparing for a new era. The Renaissance of Portsmouth Harbour is going to be one of only twelve UK landmark projects chosen to mark the new millennium. The massive £86 million scheme will only heighten Portsmouth’s position as an International waterfront city at the gateway to Britain.

    With its road and rail networks Portsmouth is easy to access, the M275 links the city to the A/M27 and the A3(M) to London.

    With two Main Line Railway Stations, London is only 70 minutes away, with access to the both Gatwick and Heathrow airports. There is also the more local Southampton International Airport, which is approximately 25 minutes away.

    There is the Continental Ferry Port, which gives easy access to France, Spain and the Channel Islands. You also have the choice of hovercraft or ferry to take you a little closer across the water to the Isle of Wight.
