The town is bordered by the M1 to the North and the A5, (the old Roman road called Watling Street) to the West with the Grand Union canal running through the middle. There is evidence of settlements dating back to Neolithic times, and there are still some remains of a Roman Villa in Bancroft.
Many of the popular misconceptions is that Milton Keynes is a ‘Concrete Jungle,’ this could not be further from the truth, as Milton Keynes boasts that over 20% of the town is open park land and lakes.
With the M1 to the North, the A5 to the West and on the major rail link from Glasgow to London, Milton Keynes is accessible to all commuters. There are over 7000 companies operating in Milton Keynes, with 80% of employment being in the service sector. The major employers are Argos, BPMobil, Merchants, Abbey National. It is also the home to the Open University, Aston Martin Lagonda, Jaguar Racing and Arrows Formula One Racing. With unemployment at less than 2% and a current population of 235,000 growing to an estimated 250,000, 46% of which are under 30, Milton Keynes can rightly be described is a prosperous growing new town.
