Basingstoke is a thriving town with excellent road and rail links to London, Reading, Winchester, and Southampton. Originally a market town, it benefited from expansion in the 1960`s and now boasts a population in excess of 160,000 and an award-winning town-centre. It is an area of below-average unemployment and above-average standard of living.
It is the regional home for many prestigious employers; The Automobile Association, Sun Life of Canada, Ericsson Mobile Platforms, Game, Motorola and Sony professional solutions. I.B.M., drug manufacturers and banking have a significant presence in the town.
Over the last few years, the number of dwellings in Basingstoke has been growing significantly faster than the average rate for Hampshire. Whilst, in common with many towns of its size, it has seen a vast increase in the number of apartments, there are also many new developments offering family accommodation. There are numerous villages and hamlets offering more rural living.
Basingstoke boasts a lively and varied leisure scene; two large cinema complexes, theatres, ten-pin bowling, ice-skating, a selection of bars and restaurants, a night club, its own professional ice-hockey team, Basingstoke Town F.C., museums, bingo and an aquadrome.
In addition to many local schools, Basingstoke also has two colleges and University College Winchester also offers a number of courses in the town, including foundation courses.
Basingstoke then, has much to offer for both individuals and families, young and old. It is a pleasant and viable alternative to the often congested and more expensive neighbouring towns.
